Our Purpose:
- To assist schools, reading centers, and after school programs in acquiring literacy and library resources (large and diverse) helping disadvantaged students increase their opportunities to learn and to read.
- To coordinate and facilitate annual reading day celebrations along with bi-monthly activities that provide incentives through partnerships with schools, communities, parents, businesses, global sponsors and policy makers.
- The Read Across Jamaica Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) exempt public charity.

The Read Across Jamaica Literacy Project (RAJLP) was fueled by research and awareness that students were being passed through the education system and tossed into an economic situation that continued to leave them functionally illiterate. By looking at performance and student approaches to learning, our technique resembles a community learning environment that is part of the solution to illiteracy.
Initiated in March 2004 at Siloah Primary School in St. Elizabeth Jamaica, our first gift was the donation of 50 new Dr. Suess books obtained from the National Education Association (NEA).
Exposure to these books created an excitement that is only describable by pictures.
This to us was a positive reaction.
Just giving a book to a child to share with each other is an honorable effort to change future disparaging situations.
Our Motto:
- Share a book with a child and you have given illiteracy a dose of cure.
Students asked us to come back the following year and we were touched by their enthusiasm that we created a program focused on encouraging children to read.
